All iPhones from the XR onward (released 2018) support eSIM. Newer models (iPhone 14, 15, 16 sold in the US) are eSIM-only. Here's how to install and activate your eSIM Israel plan in under 2 minutes.

Step-by-step installation
- 1Open the email containing your QR code on a second device (laptop, tablet) — you can't scan a QR from the same iPhone
- 2On your iPhone, go to Settings → Cellular (or Mobile Data)
- 3Tap 'Add eSIM' or 'Add Cellular Plan'
- 4Choose 'Use QR Code' and scan the code with your iPhone camera
- 5Wait for the eSIM to activate (usually under 30 seconds)
- 6When prompted, label the plan 'Israel' for easy identification
- 7Choose your primary line for calls, messages, and data
Activate 5G on iPhone in Israel
- 1Go to Settings → Cellular → Cellular Data Options
- 2Tap 'Voice & Data' and select '5G On' or '5G Auto'
- 3Enable 'Data Roaming' (yes, even with a local Israeli eSIM)
- 4Check signal — you should see '5G' next to the signal bars in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa
Important: enable Data Roaming
Even though your eSIM is from a local Israeli carrier, iOS sometimes treats it as a 'foreign' plan and disables data unless Data Roaming is enabled. This is the #1 reason eSIMs fail to connect on arrival.
Troubleshooting common issues
Issue: 'No Service' after installation
Restart your iPhone. If still no service, go to Settings → Cellular → tap your Israel eSIM → 'Turn On This Line'.
Issue: QR code won't scan
Make sure the QR code is fully visible on your second screen with good lighting. If still failing, use manual activation: go to Settings → Cellular → 'Use QR Code' → 'Enter Details Manually' and copy the SM-DP+ address and activation code from your email.
Issue: Slow data speeds
Toggle Airplane Mode on/off, or restart your phone. If issues persist, switch your primary cellular line to the Israel eSIM under Settings → Cellular.
